The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department announced Thursday morning that it received positive test results for four more confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 17.

Health Department Executive Director Kim Tedford said the newest patients are a 70-year-old female, 56-year-old male, 54-year-old male, and a 58-year-old female.

The 70-year-old female is hospitalized, according to a news release from the health department. The other three patients were told to self-isolate at home.

The release said the department’s epidemiology staff is reaching out to people who’ve had contact with the patient.

Tedford said the county has reached the point of community spread of COVID-19 and that everyone should stay home.

“You need to be treating people like they are infected,” Tedford said. “Please stay home.”

Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, said there were six patients with COVID-19 hospitalized and that not all of them are from Madison County. She also said there are about 30 patients under investigation as they wait on test results.
