The City of Jackson Is Accepting Youth Council Applications

High school students can now apply to be on the 2021-2022 Mayor’s Youth Council for the City of Jackson, according to a Friday morning news release from the City of Jackson’s Mayor Scott Conger’s Office.

This is the second year for the Mayor’s youth council that launched last spring. The council was established to provide youth with a direct communications link to voice concerns and ideas to the mayor along with an opportunity to learn about how city government operations and policies.

“We would like to inspire kids to make an impact on their hometown and hope by doing so that we can encourage them to stay in Jackson and be the difference,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “The youth council enables me to advise city council on issues and services that directly affect our future leaders.”

High school juniors are encouraged to apply online at jacksontn.gov. Applications can be found on the website under the Mayor’s office, projects and initiatives section.

Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

  • Must be a high school junior for the 2020-2021 school year
    • Reside within the city limits of Jackson
    • Have a grade point average of at least 2.5
    • Have a passion for serving their community
    • Have the desire to learn about city government and be a leader among Jackson youth

The council meets monthly, whether in-person or virtually, to provide recommendations and work on special projects.

The mayor’s office has reached out to local public high schools, private high schools and home schools for submissions. Applications are due by Tuesday, February 2.

Students who complete the program will receive a recommendation letter from the mayor.
