The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will begin offering flu shots Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, according to a Thursday afternoon news release.

The Centers and Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine every year. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical conditions.

Eleven children died in Tennessee from flu during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to the Tennessee Department of Health.

“Flu shots, along with proper hand washing and overall good hygiene, are the only ways we have to protect ourselves and others against some of the many strains of influenza,” Epidemiologist Shanna Shearon Wilbanks said.

The flu vaccine is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You must have an appointment to be seen.

Call the health department at 731-423-3020 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
