The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department received positive test results for 28 more cases of COVID-19, according to Director Kim Tedford. There are now 2,741 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County.
Tedford said there have been 140 new cases in Madison County since Friday, September 11. Madison County has had 56 COVID-19 deaths.
The newest confirmed cases include 9 males, 19 females, and range from ages 2 to 67.
The staff are reaching out to these individuals and people who had close contact with these cases.
Twelve Madison County residents are currently hospitalized. One of those patients are on a ventilator.
Tedford said 2,300 residents have recovered, 273 are active and 57 are unknown.
Tedford said even though Madison County is currently at 15.8 percent positivity rate, even as the state is seeing a decrease in positivity rate. Tedford said she is being optimistic about Labor Day numbers.
Tedford also encouraged employees not to go to work if they have COVID-19 symptoms, especially if they work in long -term care facilities, because they have sen cases at those facilities.
Tedford also said the health department is working with the state on plans on how to store a COVID-19 vaccine when one is available and on how to distribute the vaccine.
Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, said there are 78 COVID-19 patients at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, with 26 in ICU and 16 on ventilators.
“Our hospital is incredibly full,” Garner said. “There are 584 patients in the hospital.”
Garner added, “We’re really, really busy.”
She said it’s concerning the census is so high, especially since the flu season hasn’t begun.
