The appointment of Dr. Marlon King as superintendent of the Jackson-Madison County School System is highlighted in the latest edition of the American Association of School Administrator’s monthly magazine School Administrator. Dr. King is spotlighted in the AASA Insight People Watch section.
School Administrator is AASA’s award-winning monthly magazine. It is delivered to every public school superintendent in the United States who is anAASA member and others at the cabinet-level. It provides big-picture perspectives and collegial advice on a broad range of topics specific to K-12 education and the leadership of public school districts. Dr. King’s track record of improving student outcomes as an elementary school teacher – to now his third superintendency – is a noteworthy accomplishment for a relatively young executive. King turned 45 in August.
“As the leading magazine for school system leaders in the U.S., School Administrator has an important role to play in sharing news about those who serve in the impactful role of the school district superintendency,” said School Administrator magazine editor Jay Goldman. “We’re especially attuned to those members of AASA, The School Superintendents Association, who are making significant career transitions, so we use our People Watch page each month for this purpose,” Goldman said.
Dr. King served as the Southwest CORE regional executive director of the Tennessee Department of Education after serving as superintendent in Haywood County. Prior to joining JMCSS, Dr. King was superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools in Somerville. A native of Brownsville, King now resides in Jackson with his wife Latisha and son Hudson, who is a student in the Jackson-Madison County School System.
