YE BONNIE LADS AND LASSES:

Join us at First Presbyterian Church, 1573 North Highland Ave., in Jackson, for our Kirkin’ of the Tartans worship service Sunday, November 7, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. Rev. John White will bring the message during worship.

The Kirkin of the Tartans service celebrates the Scottish heritage of the Presbyterian Church, and will include a blessing of tartans, music by the Memphis Pipe Band, readings from the Geneva Bible and Psalter, and special music provided by the our choir interns.

“Kirkin’ of the Tartans” refers to the “churching” or “blessing” of Scottish tartans (plaids). If you have a family tartan, you are encouraged to bring it to worship that Sunday and come forward to the chancel rail for a blessing. Tartans and other Scottish articles can be ordered from the Scottish Lion.

You may access their website: www.scottishlion.com. Extra tartans will be available if you do not already have one, or if you simply wish to participate in the blessing ceremony. You don’t have to be Scottish to join in the celebration!

A portion of the worship service on this Sunday is also dedicated to All Saints Day. In memoriam, the names of the deceased Saints from within FPC congregation since the last All Saints Day are read, a bell will toll for each, a litany will be read, and the hymn, For All the Saints, will be sung. Plan to join in this Service of Worship, Celebration and Honor.
