This week, we’ll visit with Rhonda Heard, School and Community Engagement Advisor for Jackson-Madison County Schools. We will discuss the Open Enrollment season for students, and the exciting magnet school options families can consider for 2025. Also joining us this morning is Starr Smith, school counselor at South Side High School. She’ll help us highlight multiple career programs and dual enrollment options at South Side and our traditional high school campuses.
This week, we’re visiting with Nick Darnell...a rising actor, and social media star who just happens to be a graduate of Jackson-Madison County Schools We’ll discuss Nick’s time as a student in the district, his time at Bethel University and his meteoric rise on social media and a number of entertainment platforms.
With the Teacher of the Year luncheon coming up on May 24th, we're visiting with JCM-ECH’s Dana Helton. Each school recognizes its campus-level Teacher of the Year and three are selected to represent each grade band at the district level. Congratulations to Andrew Jackson’s Deshea Surratt, PreK-4th; East Elementary’s Ann Thompkins, 5th-8th; and JCM-ECH’s Dana Helton 9th-12th. Mrs. Helton teaches Career Exploration and Teaching as a Profession class. The District Teacher of the Year winner will be announced Friday.
