The Jackson-Madison County School System’s newest community partner, YMCA of West Tennessee, has announced new offerings for district students and families beginning in August. Y-Care, the YMCA’s Before and After Care programs, will be offered at six area schools.

“We are so excited to take our successful history of before/after school care in Shelby County and North Mississippi to Jackson-Madison County. The teachers are the most important part of any program, and we look forward to building our collective future together,” said Dave Bratcher, Senior Vice President of YMCA of West Tennessee.

The Y-Care program enables children to play, grow academically, and gain exposure to STEM as well as the arts. Each morning and afternoon will be spent working through a plan, ensuring they are ready for the school day and ready to return home.

“The Y-Care initiative will provide critical support to working families while enriching the academic experience for our youngest students. This is certainly a win for JMCSS,” said Superintendent Dr. Marlon King.

In the first year, a select number of JMCSS schools have the opportunity to build upon the success of the current offerings and expand to include more access for kids and families. Alexander, Pope, Community Montessori, Rose Hill, East, and Thelma Barker.

“Community partners like the YMCA assist the district in meeting continuous improvement goals like community engagement and parental experience. We’re delighted to count YMCA of West Tennessee among our partners,” JMCSS Chief of Staff Melissa Spurgeon said.
