Dyersburg police charged a Dyersburg woman Tuesday night with aggravated child abuse that left her 5-month-old child suffering with critical injuries from multiple blunt force trauma to the head and body, according to a Wednesday afternoon Facebook post from the department.
The post said a Dyersburg Police officer responded to Schaffer Street around 6:14 p.m. Tuesday, in reference to a 911 hang up. The officer observed a female, later identified as Aaliyah Enochs, 20, of Dyersburg, crying and visibly upset. The officer checked on Enochs, and observed her looking back at a male standing in the street. Officers spoke with the man confirming he was familiar with Enochs. As officers started to investigate, it was determined that Enochs’ child was found by the man in the home lying in bed unresponsive. Officers checked on the infant to find that the infant was unresponsive with labored breathing and visible injuries. EMS was called and the infant was transported to West Tennessee Healthcare and later transferred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
Enochs has been charged with aggravated child abuse, and was jailed pending Dyersburg City Court action. The case remains under investigation by the DPD Criminal Investigation Division and Child Protective Services.
