Sales Tax Holiday – Food, Food Ingredients, and Prepared Food May Be Purchased Tax Free July 30 – August 5

The Tennessee Department of Revenue has posted Public Chapter 456 (2021), effective July 1, 2021, creates a new sales tax holiday for the week beginning 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 and ending at 11:59 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

During this period, food, food ingredients, and prepared food products may be purchased tax free.

“Food and food ingredients” are defined as liquid, concentrated, solid, frozen, dried, or dehydrated substances that are sold to be ingested or chewed by humans and are consumed for their taste or nutritional value. Food ingredients do not include alcoholic beverages, tobacco, candy, dietary supplements, and prepared food.
