JPD: A 10-Year-Old Girl Has Been Charged With Attempted Murder of a 16-Year-Old Boy

Jackson Police have charged a 10-year-old child with attempted 2nd degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, according to a Wednesday afternoon news release from JPD.

The release said at approximately 5: p.m. Nov. 17, JPD officers responded to a reported shooting incident at 504 Daugherty Street, East Point Apartments.  Responding officers located a 16-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest.  The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital and then transferred to the Med in Memphis where he is listed in “critical but stable” condition.

During the investigation, it was determined that the victim had been intentionally shot by the 10- year-old female.  The weapon was recovered and the female suspect was taken into custody.  The 10-year-old suspect is currently in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.

Jackson Police are not looking for any other suspects, the release said.
