The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Madison County rose by two Tuesday afternoon, bringing the total number of cases to 47, according to a news release from the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department.

The new COVID-19 cases were announced through email.

The newest patients include:

  • a 24-year-old female (not hospitalized)
  • a 51-year-old female (not hospitalized)

The patients were instructed to self-isolate at home, the release said.

The health department’s epidemiology staff is reaching out to people who had contact with the patients.

Kim Tedford, executive director of the JMCR Heath Dept., said Tuesday morning that the number of cases would go up Tuesday afternoon because her staff was processing some positive COVID-19 cases as she participated in a Tuesday morning media briefing.

Tedford said all of last month’s drive-through COVID-19 assessment site test results are in and six tests had positive results. Five of the positives come from Madison County and are included in the 45 confirmed cases for the county and one positive was from outside the county.
Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, said 685 patients have been tested for COVID-19 across the system, with 498 negative. She said there are 34 positive cases, from Madison County and outlying counties, and 158 pending. There are 23 patients under investigation for novel coronavirus.
Garner said there are currently 10 COVID-19 patients at the hospital, with three COVID-19 patients on a ventilator.
