Jackson-Madison County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marlon King honored top readers of the Superintendent’s Super Readers Challenge with a $500 shopping spree Monday at Walmart.
Genevieve Warren of Andrew Jackson Elementary and Elizabeth Alexander of South Side High School participated in the challenge from Feb. 5th to March 29th. That’s when the Superintendent’s Super Readers Challenge encouraged students to read 20 minutes a day for 40 days. Genevieve read 2,092 minutes while Elizabeth read 7,116 minutes. More than 500,000 total minutes were by students districtwide during the competition.
Today the top readers purchased books, art supplies, and a PlayStation 5. District leaders plan to have more reading competitions during the 2024-2025 school year and provide more chances for more students to win. Events like the JMCSS Gala and the Believers Unite campaign help fund these student recognition activities.
