The Jackson-Madison County School System proudly announces the launch of the CommUNITY Project, a groundbreaking initiative that signifies a momentous step forward in the district’s commitment to education and community development. The project encompasses transformative developments, including the eagerly awaited Groundbreaking Ceremony for the football stadium at Oman Arena, scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 at 1:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, the Malesus STEM Innovation Center pre-construction walkthrough was held where the community had an opportunity to witness the infancy of the project as it is prepared to open in the Fall of 2024 or sooner. Most recently, the land is continuing to be cleared at the Pope School property, and a $4 million FEMA grant has been awarded for the safe room on campus that will support the community during inclement weather emergencies.

Under the umbrella of the CommUNITY Project, the football stadium at Oman Arena is set to be a focal point, reflecting the district’s dedication to fostering excellence in athletics. The commencement of construction at Pope School and the renovation underway at the Malesus STEM Innovation Center further exemplify the unprecedented historic progress taking place within the Jackson-Madison County School System.

Superintendent Marlon King expressed his excitement, stating, “The CommUNITY Project is a testament to our commitment to excellent educational opportunities with recreational facilities, state-of-the-art schools and new innovations providing world-class experiences for our students and the entire community. This historic progress is a testament to the uncommon dedication and collaboration among our educators, board members, and community partners.”

Chairman of the School Board, James ‘Pete’ Johnson, emphasized the strategic priorities driving these projects, saying, “We are witnessing a new era of growth and development in our school system. The CommUNITY Project aligns with our strategic priorities, reflecting our dedication to creating an environment that fosters learning, innovation, and community engagement.”

Mayor Scott Conger, who played a pivotal role in the project by gifting Oman Arena and contributing $3 million to support initiatives beyond the facilities, shared his vision, stating, “Investing in education is an investment in our community’s future. The CommUNITY Project not only enhances our schools but also contributes to the overall well-being and growth of Jackson. I am proud to be a part of this transformative initiative.”

Beyond the educational benefits, the CommUNITY Project also highlights a forward-thinking approach to revenue generation. By hosting major sporting events, the district aims to attract both local and statewide audiences, creating economic opportunities while enhancing community engagement.

As the CommUNITY Project unfolds, the Jackson-Madison County School System invites everyone to join in the excitement, celebrating progress, unity, and a shared commitment to excellence in education. No better time in the history of JMCSS to CHOOSE US.
