Senior Jackson State Community College nursing students will undergo a mock disaster to learn how to perform medical care in various environments and situations alongside local emergency agencies. This event will involve JSCC nursing students and faculty, Medical Center EMS, Jackson Police Department, JPD SWAT Team, Madison County Fire Department, Air Evac, and other agencies.
The mock disaster will begin at 1 p.m., lasting 30 minutes to an hour, in the softball field at Jackson State Community College – Jackson Campus, located at 2046 North Parkway, Jackson, TN 38301.
Scenarios in previous years have included explosions, tornado aftermath, active shooters and more.
Students act in the role of first responders, victims, bystanders, secondary triage in an ER setting setup in a tent, and on-scene management. Ambulances, helicopter (weather permitting), fire trucks, and police presence will be on-scene for the event.
This year’s theme will be an active shooter scenario taking place at the softball field with 15 mock casualties and a total of 30 students involved.
