The Jackson Rockabillys announced the addition of Cory Wright and Courtland Simoneaux to their coaching staff.  Wright and Courtland join the recently named field manager, former MLB player Matt Franco, to lead the 2023 inaugural Rockabillys team.

Cory Wright is a former two-way player, earning Louisville Slugger All-American honors as a high school senior. He started his college career at Kansas State University (2016), then transferred to Parkland college where he led the Cobras to a 52-9 season and NJCAA World Series berth (2017). Wright suffered a torn PCL and herniated disc during the Cobra’s playoffs. He played the 2018 season for Mercer University before transferring to Valdosta State. In 2019, he suffered another herniated disc. He returned for the 2021 season and graduated from VSU with a BA of Business Administration.

Wright joined the Valdosta State coaching staff as the graduate assistant pitching coach in 2022. In his first season as a coach for the Blazers, Wright helped develop one of the premier pitching staffs in the Gulf South Conference. In route to a regional berth in 2022, VSU ended the season with a record of 35-16. Blazer pitchers ranked 2nd in ERA, and allowed the fewest walks in the GSC.

The Illinois native spent the ’22 summer as pitching coach for the Windy City Thunderbolts in the Frontier League. Wright will be graduating this May with his MBA from VSU.

Assistant Coach Courtland Simoneaux is a native of Brusly, Louisana.  He played collegiately at Southern University under Coach Kerrick Jackson, the current Head Coach of the University of Memphis, for three years before transferring to Xavier University in New Orleans to play under Coach Andrian Holloway, Xavier’s first team since 1960. Simoneaux, who goes by “CoCo”, is now an Assistant Coach at Xavier. He was the starting centerfielder at both schools and an HBCU All-American in 2021 as a Senior.
