In an effort to strengthen our community’s fight against the Covid-19 virus, all schools within the Jackson-Madison County School System will implement masks mandatory protocols beginning Tuesday, September 7 through Friday, October 1. This adjustment coincides with a joint resolution released this week by the Madison County COVID-19 Task Force.
“The school district on its own did not just decide to implement a mandate. There are multiple signatures on said resolution. We are in this making decisions together,” said Jackson City Mayor Scott Conger.
The joint resolution was signed by local leaders from nine different entities; Mayor Conger, Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris, JMCSS Superintendent Dr. Marlon King, West Tennessee Healthcare CEO James Ross, United Way of West Tennessee CEO Matthew Marshall, Jackson Energy Authority CEO JimFerrell, Regional Health Department Director Kim Tedford, Jackson Chamber CEO Kyle Spurgeon, and Emergency Management Agency Director Jason Moore.
“The Jackson-Madison County School System will continue to do its part in helping reverse the trend of rising Covid-19 cases in our community. We are encouraged by the fact that most of our students and staff have worn masks for the last several weeks,” said JMCSS Superintendent Dr. Marlon King.
School principals were notified of this upcoming adjustment last week and have necessary forms and documentation should parents have questions or need additional guidance. Parents will have the option to opt out as Governor Lee’s Executive Order 84 remains active.
