Jackson Police are investigating three shooting incidents that have occurred within the last 24 hours, according to Monday afternoon news release from the Jackson Police Department. A total of five people were shot and appear to have non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Jackson Police said they received a Shotspotter alert for shots fired in the 100 Block of Lincoln Circle around 6:50 p.m. Sunday, August 1. Officers responded to the area but had negative contact with any victims. While officers were canvassing the area of the Shotspotter alert for evidence, two gunshot victims arrived at a local hospital with what was determined to be non-life threatening injuries.
Later that evening, around 11:40 p.m. Jackson Police were dispatched to the 100 Building of 1580 N. Royal, Royal Arms Apartments, for another shooting. Responding officers located a crime scene and two victims. Both gunshot victims appeared to have non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital for treatment.
Jackson Police have not determined if the two cases are related but continue to actively investigate both, the news release stated.
While Jackson Police and investigators actively investigated the two cases from the evening of August 1, they were dispatched to another shooting incident. Monday morning, August 2, around 9:50 a.m., Jackson Police and investigators were dispatched to the area of Revere Circle, Post House North, for a report of shots fired. Responding officers located a victim along with a crime scene. The victim did not appear to have a life threatening injury but was transported by Emergency Medical Services for treatment.
Based upon preliminary evidence, Jackson Police do not believe either of these shootings were random acts of violence but targeted acts of violence. Jackson Police Investigators are receiving very little cooperation from the victims as they tirelessly work to identify and apprehend the suspect(s) of these violent assaults.
Jackson Police are asking anyone with information that could assist in solving any of these cases call the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 and speak with someone in the Criminal Investigation Division.
