Dr. Josie Currie, former elementary and middle school principal with Fayette County Public Schools, is joining the Jackson-Madison County School System. Dr. Currie has been named head of school (principal) for Jackson-Academic STEAM Academy (JASA).
“JASA will be a premier virtual option in West Tennessee,” Superintendent Dr. Marlon King said. “Dr. Currie’s experience as a Reward School (multiple years) principal and her innovative leadership style will add value to JASA.”
Dr. Currie will oversee academics and instruction for the district’s new K-12 cyber school. Former CyberSchool principal Dr. Teresa McSweeney has been named Director of Innovation for JMCSS.
“I want to make sure that our students have every opportunity that a traditional learner would have. I’m an out of the box thinker, so we’re going to make sure JASA will meet or exceed opportunities offered by other educational environments in Madison County. Dr. King will provide us with autonomy to do so,” Dr. Currie said.
With more than fifteen years of experience in public schools – teacher, instructional facilitator (school and district levels), elementary and middle school principal, Dr. Currie holds a Doctorate in Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Memphis.
“We’ll provide every family with an option to have the best educational experience for their child. JASA will have rigor, but it will absolutely be an environment that is fun and the kids are excited,” Dr. Currie said.
