A Jackson police officer was seriously injured responding to a violent domestic assault in progress at 40 Carriage House Drive, The Clean Machine Coin Laundry, Thursday night. The officer sustained a vertebrae fracture, six fractured ribs, and a serious leg injury.
Jackson Police responded to the laundry mat for a call of a violent assault around 7:50 p.m., Thursday, April 29. According to reports, a male suspect was strangling and violently attacking a female victim by throwing her to the ground. The initial responding officer attempted to make contact with the suspect identified as David Lauderdale. Lauderdale, who had entered his vehicle prior to officer’s arrival, put his vehicle in reverse and quickly accelerated striking the officer and pinning the officer between the suspect’s vehicle and the officer’s vehicle. The suspect continued fleeing the scene in reverse and at a high rate of speed striking another vehicle traveling on Carriage House. Lauderdale exited his vehicle and attempted to enter the vehicle he had just struck. Lauderdale then fled on foot toward Sakura Japanese Restaurant located at 70 Carriage House Drive. Officers attempted to taser Lauderdale but were unsuccessful. Jackson Police arrested a combative David Lauderdale inside of 70 Carriage House Drive.
At the initial scene, officers rendered first aid to both the female victim and the injured officer. Because of a visible deep laceration, officers applied a tourniquet to the leg of the injured officer. Emergency medical services arrived on scene providing aid to both the female victim and the injured officer. Emergency Medical Services transported the officer to a local hospital for treatment. The officer was later transported to a hospital in Nashville, Tenn. where he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.
Jackson Police transported Lauderdale to the Criminal Justice Complex where he will be formally charged. Lauderdale, a documented gang member with multiple prior felony convictions, is currently out on probation from Davidson County.
