With Board members considering school zone options for Community Montessori and Madison Academic next month, the deadline for fall registration for the Jackson-Madison County School System has been extended to Friday, May 28. The extension provides parents adequate time to adjust to seat availability should these zones impact their registration.

All parents are urged to verify their child’s enrollment for August during fall registration. Enrollment verification is critically important for students currently using virtual and CyberSchool options; as Jackson Academic STEAM Academy (JASA) will replace CyberSchool and be the only virtual learning path for students during the 2021-2022 school year. All other schools will return to in-person instruction full-time.

“It’s extremely important that parents respond to the registration email and get their child registered so that we can get our numbers and be ready when school starts. We want to have the correct number of teachers in place at each school,” Deputy Superintendent Dr. Vivian Williams said.

Registration, which must be completed via PowerSchool using a web browser, also provides a chance for parents and guardians to update critical student information.

“This process assures we have up to date contact information for each child and lets us know of any updated health information the school needs to be aware of,” Leader of Assessment & Accountability Catherine Korth said.

The registration deadline for Rising STARS summer learning camp has also been extended. Parents now have until Monday, April 19 to sign their child up for these four-week learning camps. These camps will be held at multiple locations for students entering grades 1st through 8th. Meals and snacks will be provided to students as well as transportation. This is a free service for JMCSS students.

“These camps will primarily focus on reading, math, and physical activity. An extra bonus for students in the elementary grades will be an extra hour designated as a STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math) minicamp,” Dr. Williams said.

Jackson-Madison County Schools are free to all children of school age who reside in Madison County. Visit jmcss.org/families for more information. Current JMCSS parents may contact school attendance secretaries as they are ready to assist with this process.
