The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department, in conjunction with the local COVID-19 task force, announced plans Wednesday to allow the face covering requirement in Madison County to expire. The mask mandate will expire Wednesday, Mar. 31 at 11:59 p.m.
“I’m pleased with how our COVID-19 numbers are looking,” Regional Director Kim Tedford said. “We’ve seen a drastic decrease in the number of COVID-19 and flu cases thanks to citizens wearing masks and doing their part. I’m cautiously optimistic people will get vaccinated and continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
The health department will continue to require face coverings at our facility, located at 804 North Parkway, and at The WIC Center, located at 589 East College Street. Masks will still be required at all properties owned and operated by West Tennessee Healthcare. Masks will be encouraged at all venues owned and operated by Madison County and the City of Jackson.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends people wear masks in public settings when around people not in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Masks help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department encourages people to take the following steps to help slow the spread of COVID-19:
- Check for COVID-19 signs and symptoms daily and stay home if you are sick.
- Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth to help protect yourself and others.
- Stay 6 feet apart from others who don’t live with you.
- Get a COVID-19 vaccine when it is available to you.
- Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water aren’t available.
