The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department encourages citizens to cancel other scheduled COVID-19 vaccine appointments once they have been vaccinated, according to a Monday morning news release from the department.

If you schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment through multiple sources, please notify all the locations when you receive your vaccine. We encourage people to get vaccinated as soon as they qualify.

We remove vaccine from storage daily based on the number of scheduled appointments. Once vaccine thaws, it must be used within a certain time frame before it expires. “When citizens don’t show up for appointments, it puts a tremendous strain on vaccination sites,” Regional Director Kim Tedford said. “We have to find enough qualified people in a very short amount of time to get that vaccine.”

Canceling outstanding appointments once you’re vaccinated frees up those appointments for someone else. We also schedule staff based on the number of appointments each day.

Call our COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Line at 1-888-796-8894 to schedule or cancel your appointment at the health department. Schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment online at www.madisoncountytn.gov.
