UPDATE: Madison, Haywood, Shelby and Fayette Counties Now Included in Ice Storm Warning

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued an Ice Storm Warning which will remain in effect through Thursday morning and now includes more counties in West Tennessee.

This watch includes portions of Northwest Tennessee, East Arkansas and Southeast Missouri. Cities includes in this warning include: Piggott, Corning, Paragould, Jonesboro, Harrisburg, Blytheville, Wynne, West Memphis, Forrest City, Kennett, Caruthersville, Tiptonville, Union City, Martin, Dresden, Paris, Dyersburg, Humboldt, Milan, Ripley, and Alamo.

The following counties in Mississippi and Tennessee were added shortly before 10:30 a.m.: Desoto, Tunica, Coahoma, Carroll and Benton in Mississippi and Tipton, Haywood, Madison, Shelby and Fayette counties in Tennessee. The cities added include: Southaven, Olive Branch, Tunica, Clarksdale, Huntingdon, Camden, Covington, Brownsville, Jackson, Bartlett, Germantown, Collierville, Memphis, Millington, Somerville, and Oakland.

Significant amounts of icing is likely and so are ice accumulations around one quarter of an inch.

NWS warns that power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Prepare for possible power outages.
