The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department received positive test results for 54 more cases of COVID-19, according to a Wednesday morning news release. There are now 5,032 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County.
The newest confirmed cases range from ages 11 to 81.
The department’s epidemiology staff are reaching out to these individuals and people who had close contact with these cases.
There are currently 227 people wo have not recovered, 332 who say they are doing better and 333 whose conditions are unknown.
During Wednesday’s media briefing, Regional Hospital Coordinator Wayne Arnold said it is important that that people answer the phone or return calls to contact tracers.
“We’re trying to track the spread of the coronavirus throughout the community,” Arnold said. “If you will respond to us and give us an honest list of your contacts, and let us contact those contacts and at least give them the option of whether they want to listen to us or not, that would be tremendously helpful. I know multiple instances where I personally know people that have tested positive and explicitly told our contact tracers that they didn’t believe it was a positive test, that they were going to get retested, even though someone else in the house had tested positive. They refused to name their children.”
Twenty-one Madison County residents are currently hospitalized. Five of those patients are on a ventilator.
