Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Director Kim Tedford announced Friday afternoon during a media briefing that a mask mandate will go into effect midnight Friday for Madison County. The mandate will be in effect until the end of December.

The order, issued Friday, requires people to wear face coverings or masks in businesses, organizations, or venues open to the public in Madison County.

The mandate takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 14, 2020. The order remains in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2020 and can be modified or withdrawn before that date.

“Our numbers have never looked as ad as they do right now,” Tedford said during the media briefing.

The health department received positive test results for 151 more cases of COVID-19, which were confirmed in the last seven days, Tedford said. She said this was the highest number of COVID-19 cases reported since the pandemic began. There are now 4,669 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County.

The newest confirmed cases range from ages 2 to 97.

There have been 436 COVID-19 cases reported since Sunday, Nov. 8 and 656 cases reported since the last media briefing Wednesday, November 4.

Tedford said surrounding counties are also experiencing a spike in COVID-19 numbers.
