Health Department Confirms Additional COVID-19 Death, 3,220 Cases of COVID-19 in Madison County

The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department confirms a 70-year-old male died Sept. 26 due to complications from COVID-19, according to Director Kim Tedford. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 70 in Madison County.

The health department received positive test results for 25 more cases of COVID-19. We now have 3,220 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County.

The newest confirmed cases include 10 males, 15 females, and range from ages 4 to 88.

The department’s epidemiology staff are reaching out to these individuals and people who had close contact with these cases.

Four Madison County residents are currently hospitalized. None of those patients are on a ventilator.

Tedford said there are 122 active cases with 68 unknown. The department has also purchased a new database to keep better numbers and to ask the same questions for contact tracing.

Tedford also encouraged providers to continue testing for for COVID-19 and ask everyone to continue social distancing, hand sanitizing and wearing masks.

Tedford said the positivity rate is 12.3 percent and one week ago it was 10.3 percent.

Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, said there are 60 COVID-19 patients at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, with 16 in ICU and 13 on ventilators.
