The Madison County Fire Department will kick off Fire Prevention Week with a smoke alarm and address marker drive Sunday, according to a Tuesday afternoon news release.
Firefighters will be at Food Giant, 2596 Christmasville Rd, Jackson, Tenn., and 1727 S Highland Ave., Jackson, Tenn. Sunday, October 4 from 1 pm until 4 pm taking names for free smoke alarm installation and making $20 address markers for community members.
Fire Prevention Week is nationally recognized October 4 through October 10 with this year’s theme being “Serving Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.” While cooking is the number one cause of home fires and home fire injuries, working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly.
“Madison County participates in a statewide program to install free smoke alarms, year round, to anyone in need,” said Community Risk Reduction Coordinator, Anna Kate Craig. “With Fire Prevention Week beginning October 4, we are using this time to inform the public on the service that we provide to keep the community safe.”
In addition, firefighters will be making double-sided, reflective, address markers, available for $20.
“You never know when an emergency will arise, so address markers serve as a huge benefit for first responders to find your home in a time of urgency,” said Craig.
