Jackson Madison County School System leadership is taking steps to protect its students and the fall sports season. The current trend in positive COVID cases in Madison County has caused district leaders to proceed with extreme caution – while also protecting the possibility of athletic contests at our high school facilities this fall, according to a Friday update from JMCSS.
The Jackson-Madison County School System has made the difficult decision to currently postpone the in-person classroom option. As a result, the determination to return fall sports to our Phase One safety measures was decided this morning in an emergency meeting of JMCSS Senior Leadership; district principals and the JMCSS executive team were in attendance.
“While many are deeply disappointed, this decision was made in the best interest of everyone’s health and safety,” said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Ricky Catlett. “As a group, we have worked tirelessly over the last weeks to determine a safe return. That effort will continue as we navigate the fluid situation before us. As local COVID cases go down, we will continue to explore adding back the traditional in person option,” Dr. Catlett said.
While this is a stressful time for everyone involved, the Jackson-Madison County School System is putting a priority on the health and safety of it’s students, teachers and staff. District leaders will evaluate conditions on a week to week basis.
“I look forward to the return of school traditions we all know and love under the safety guidelines set forth by the CDC and recommended by our local health officials,” Dr. Catlett said.
