The Jackson Transit Authority is scheduled to unveil a brand new, 30-foot long trolley-style bus Thursday, June 18, 2020, in front of Jackson City Hall, located at 1010 East Main Street, Jackson, Tenn, according to a news release from JTA.
The trolley bus project began over 10 years ago with the board members taking an interest in having a trolley replica bus in the JTA fleet. The delay to receive a trolley-style bus was due to funding. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) assisted JTA with funding through the TDOT Improve Act grant program and local assistance came from the City of Jackson.
The Gillig Corporation constructed the trolley-style bus. The bus’ completion and delivery had been set for March, however, was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic by two months. The new bus will include unique paint scheme, wood detailing and a bell.
JTA serves the City of Jackson, Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., except seven holidays.
