JACKSON, Tenn. – The South Side Hawks boys varsity basketball team will finally get a taste of celebration this month, after their season came to an abrupt halt due to COVID-19 and the suspension of state athletic tournaments. The Hawks finished the 2019-2020 season undefeated, as district and regional champs, before the state tournament was cancelled. The team will be honored by Mayor Conger with a ceremonial flag-raising in front of City Hall later this month.

“Not only is this a great group of student athletes,” said Principal Anita Tucker, “They are all very fine young men! They were so much fun to watch because they were all very unselfish and team-oriented with winning as the goal as well as representing South Side in a very positive way. It’s a great day to be a Hawk!”

The ceremonial flag-raising will kick off the city’s Flag Day celebration on Sunday, June 14th at 3:00 p.m. in front of City Hall.

This is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and accomplishment that went into this season and the “0” in the loss column of their record. Along with Mayor Conger, JMCSS would like to congratulate the players and coaching staff on an excellent season.

Students and families who attend this celebration are encouraged to wear masks and respect social distancing. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend.
