Leadership University, a youth leadership development program for high school juniors from Jackson-Madison County, held a drive-through graduation event Thursday night for the 38 graduates of the program.
Leadership University is the Jackson Chamber’s youth leadership development program for Jackson-Madison County. It is open to juniors from public, private and home‐schooled students in Jackson-Madison County. Established in 1999, Leadership University has exposed the younger generation to local opportunities, needs, problems and resources available in the community. Forty students are selected to participate each year in the program. Leadership University is sponsored by Lane College, Union University, Jackson State Community College and the University of Memphis ‐ Lambuth Campus. These sponsorships make it possible for the program to be offered to participants at no cost, but to pay it forward to the community. Students participate in community service monthly during the program with local social service agencies.
