The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department received positive test results for one more confirmed case of COVID-19 Tuesday morning, according to Kim Tedford, executive director of the Jackson Madison County Regional Health Department. Madison County now has a total of 137 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The most recent case is a 73-year-old female, who is hospitalized.  The department’s epidemiology staff is reaching out to people who had contact with this patient.

Tedford said the number of new cases is going down and there were no increases in cases over the weekend. There are 39 active cases that are sick or still hospitalized, with four patients who are on ventilators.

Tedford also said that a FEMA asset, a decontamination system for personal protective equipment, will be set up inside a hangar at McKeller-Sipes Regional Airport and will be able to decontaminate 80,000 masks a day. The Jackson-Madison County Emergency Management Agency and staff from the health department will run the system.

Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, said elective surgeries will begin again next week but will be limited.
