TN Dept. of Health Reports Over 9,100 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases, Nearly 180 Deaths and Over 4,400 Recoveries

Over 9,100 Tennesseans have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to Saturday’s data from the Tennessee Department of Health.

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, there are 9,189 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the death toll has risen to 178.

There have been 4,467 recoveries. The department said it defines recoveries as people who have been confirmed to be asymptomatic by their local or regional health department and have completed their required isolation period or are at least 21 days beyond the first test confirming their illness.

A total of 821 people with COVID-19 have been hospitalized, but the department noted that while the number indicates the number of patients that were ever hospitalized during their illness, it does not indicate the number of patients currently hospitalized.

A total of 141,406 tests have been taken.

According to Saturday’s data, 3,912 white Tennesseans with COVID-19 make up 42.6 percent of the cases, while 1,773 black or African-American Tennesseans make up 19.3 percent of the cases. The data also showed that 564 Tennesseans with COVID-19 who are other or multiracial make up 6.1 percent of the cases while 189 COVID-19 positive Asian Tennesseans make up 2.1 percent of the state’s cases. The data showed that 701 COVID-19 positive Hispanic or Latino Tennesseans make up 7.6 percent of the state’s COVID-19 cases.

The age range with the most confirmed cases of COVID-19 is the 21-30 age range with 1,742 confirmed cases, with the 51-60 age range the second-highest age range with 1,542 confirmed cases. The lowest age range of confirmed cases is 0-10 range with 145 confirmed cases, with the 81+ age range the second-lowest age range with 291 confirmed cases.

The 81+ age range has the most reported deaths, with 58 deaths reported, followed by 50 deaths in the 71-80 age range and 42 deaths in the 61-70 age group. The only age group with no reported deaths is the 11-20 age group, followed by age groups 0-10, 21-30 and 31-40 with one death reported in each age group.

The data showed that female Tennesseans make up 46.5 percent of confirmed cases with 4,272 cases and 71 deaths (39.9 percent), while male Tennesseans make up 50.4 percent of confirmed cases with 4,633 cases and 107 deaths (60.1 percent). There are 284 cases (3.1 percent) pending.
