Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department reported five new cases of the novel coronavirus in Madison County Thursday morning, bringing the total of confirmed cases in the county to 59.
Kim Tedford, executive director of the JMCR Heath Dept., made the announcement during a media briefing.
A news release from the department said its epidemiology staff is still trying to make contact with some of the patients, so ages, gender and hospitalization status are not known at this time. The department is also reaching out to people who had contact with the patients.
Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, said 785 people have been tested system-wide, with 41 positives, 608 negatives and 137 cases still pending. Ten COVID-19 patients are hospitalized and three patients are on ventilators.
Garner said 21 patients are under investigation, 95 employees are quarantined at home and one healthcare worker has tested positive for COVID-19. The worker is quarantined at home.
Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris said one person who works at the Madison County Courthouse has tested positive.
