Dyersburg Police Chief Steven L. Isbell announced Tuesday that two Dyersburg Police Department employees have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Isbell made the announcement Tuesday morning on the department’s Facebook page, stating that four members of the department were tested, with two testing positive and two testing negative.

“The Dyersburg Police Department works hard to keep our community safe, now we ask that the community work hard to help keep us safe,” Isbell said. “Follow the Governor’s Executive Orders, avoid unnecessary travel and exposure. Please do not force our officers to place themselves in unnecessary harm’s way. This is all about individual responsibility.”

Isbell also said calls for service have decreased from February to March. He said that the department has experienced a slight drop in crime in a few categories,  but there has been an increase in aggravated assaults, simple assaults, and domestic assaults.

“Domestic assaults account for half of the simple assaults reported,” he said.
