Over 60 Tennesseeans who tested positive for the novel coronavirus have died as the number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States surpassed 10,000, according to Monday’s data from the Tennessee Department of Health and the Center of System Science and Engineering from John Hopkins University.

As of 2 p.m. Monday, there have been 65 COVID-19 deaths in Tennessee and 356 recoveries. The department said it defines recoveries as people who have been confirmed to be asymptomatic by their local or regional health department and have completed their required isolation period or are at least 21 days beyond the first test confirming their illness.

The department also said 3,802 positive COVID-19 cases have been reported and a total of 352 people with COVID-19 have been hospitalized, but the department noted that while the number indicates the number of patients that were ever hospitalized during their illness, it does not indicate the number of patients currently hospitalized.

A total of 43,548 tests have come back negative from private and state labs and a total of 47,350 tests have been taken.

Tennessee is currently under a mandatory, 14-day Stay At Home executive order from Gov. Bill Lee.

The center said U.S. has 352,546 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the most cases than any other nation in the world and over twice as many as Spain, which is the nation with the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases with 135,032 confirmed cases.

The U.S. reached 10,389 deaths Monday afternoon, making the nation third in the most number of COVID-19 deaths, with Italy reporting 16,523 deaths and Spain reporting 13,169. The U.S. has reported 18,999 recoveries.

There are 1,324,907 reported COVID-19 cases globally, with 275,832 reported recoveries.

President Donald Trump and health officials have warned that a COVID-19 surge of new patients will occur in the coming weeks and that the nation is looking at 100,000-plus deaths by the time the pandemic ends.

Health officials are urging people to stay home and that they should even avoid going to the grocery store or the pharmacy if possible.
