SAACA’s 32nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration-Emancipation Day to be Held Saturday, June 19


The Society for African-American Cultural Awareness (SAACA) will present the 32nd Annual Juneteenth Emancipation Day Saturday, June 19.  The event will be held from 10 a.m. til 7 p.m. at the T.R. White Sportsplex, 304 N. Hays Avenue, in Jackson, Tenn. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Freedom.”

Juneteenth also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it is now celebrated annually on June 19 throughout the United States, with varying official recognition. It is commemorated on the anniversary date of the June 19, 1865 announcement by Union Army general Gordon Granger, proclaiming freedom from slavery in Texas.

There will be food, vendors, live music/DJ, guest speakers and the event is FREE!!!

There will be free COVID-19 vaccinations by Taylor Medical Center.
