The City of Jackson is looking for innovative ideas from residents.

The first request for ideas is for the train depot at 580 South Royal Street in Jackson. It was built in 1907 and the building is approximately 5,500 sq. ft.

“This is an opportunity to be a part of the thriving downtown area that has grown exponentially over the past decade,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “When we start to explore re-purposing spaces, it’s important that people have an opportunity to share their ideas. We are lucky to have a lot of creativity in our city and we want to make sure that our community has a voice in what we do.”

Ideas can be submitted on the city’s website at ideas.jacksontn.gov. New projects will be periodically added for new submission requests.

The facility previously operated as a train museum and was closed in May 2020 due to a decline in public interest. On average, attendance was less than 10 people each week and the museum cost the city $109,000 a year to operate.
