The City of Jackson is postponing, rescheduling or canceling all scheduled events at the Carl Perkins Civic Center through early spring.

In late December, the City of Jackson partnered with various community organizations to open a temporary warming center for homeless men at the facility.

“We will not force our most vulnerable out of a safe environment for an event,” said Mayor Scott Conger.

Tennessee Homeless Solutions and the City of Jackson will continue to work on a permanent shelter that is scheduled to open in the spring.

The shelter is in need of deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream, soap, nail clippers, towels, washcloths, gallon Ziploc bags, snack foods, large plastic bins with lids, hand sanitizer, disinfecting spray, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap and dryer sheets. Donations can be dropped off at the center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
