The City of Jackson, Tenn. to Formally Accept the AARP Community Challenge Grant Sept. 24

The City of Jackson, Tenn. will formally accept an AARP Community Challenge grant Thursday, Sept. 24, according to a Friday morning news release. The City of Jackson is one of only 184 grantees selected from across all 50 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The City of Jackson will  accept the grant through a virtual check presentation at 11:00 AM on September 24, 2020 in the George A. Smith Room at City Hall, located at 101 E Main Street Jackson, TN 38301. Members of the media are encouraged to attend. Social distancing, masks, and a temperature screening upon arrival at City Hall will be required.
With this “quick-action” grant, the City of Jackson will use it to improve the city’s transportation accessibility and communications by creating a smartphone app that provides real-time information about public buses.
“We are incredibly proud that AARP selected The City of Jackson, TN to receive this grant,” stated Mayor Scott Conger. “AARP is a nationwide leader on making neighborhoods, towns, and cities more livable for all residents and we are honored that they see the tangible value this project will bring to our community.”
